(BangkokPost.com) - The Thai industrial sector believed the governments of Thailand and Cambodia could resolve their border dispute and the situation would not hurt the sector, according to Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) vice chairman Payungsak Chartsutipol.
He said the border row between both countries is not too worrying yet, and the armed clash between Thai and Cambodian troops near Preah Vihear temple on Wednesday would not discourage Thai investors to do small and big businesses in the neighbouring country.
However, Thai Chamber of Commerce’s neighbouring country trade promotion committee chairman Niyom Waiyaratchapanich said the Thai-Cambodian mounting tension could pull down Thailand’s export in Cambodia from 60 billion bath to 48 billion baht.
He said Cambodia would economically suffer more than Thailand since its tourism revenue, particularly from Preah Vihear temple, would reduce. Thailand may halt its business and investment cooperation with Cambodia, he added.
Mr Niyom said the chambers of commerce of Chanthaburi, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Trat and Sakaeo provinces will have a meeting on October 20 to discuss strategies to handle economic impacts from the border dispute.
