Phnom Penh: More than 500 child representatives celebrated the 57th and 7th anniversary of two international days, International children’s Day (June 1) and International Child Labor Day (June 12) gathering in Samdech Hun Sen Park and the riverbank in Pnom Penh on June 3.

There are two theme features celebrating that day, firstly “Health care for infants and children for the development of the country”, and secondly “Education is the rights solution to child labor.”

“Every Cambodian citizen has a great obligation to ensure infants and children can live peacefully, grow to be healthy an intelligent adults, and live in peace and diginity,” Ith Sam Heng, Minister of social affairs was quoted by the Mekong Times as saying.

Deputy Prime Minister Sok An said that “Children are the bamboo shoots which will grow into our bamboo plants and are the firm pillar of the country, but the poverty of the people is an obstacle to the achievement of children’s educational potential.” Reported The Mekong Times.
