Guy Winner of the Cambodian national chess championship

On Sunday, Chhoy Vira, who is the winner of the first-ever Cambodian National chess tournament, had been awarded $1,000, broadcasted live on television.

The first-Cambodian Chess Tournament had been jointly held by the Olympic Committee of Cambodia (OCC) and first Khmer Chess tournament in order to standardize and highlight the national game.

Chhoy Vira from Phnom Penh was the first place amongst 20 competitors who were selected out of 100 from different provinces and municipalities last month.

The second place, Krouch Chantharith from Kandal province, is $700, but the third place, Kuoch Chansotheavuth toke $500. And $100 would be offered to other top 10 winners each.

The national chess completion had not been held officially but it is a popular game among the common Cambodian people and is not a kind of sport. the Khmer chess is also regarded as the cultural heritage of Cambodia.
